Care for Parents and Elderly

Maintenance is ordered by a court order where either daughter or son is asked to give a certain amount to the parents or elderly persons to fulfil their basic needs. It is also known as alimony. The amount of maintenance depends on various circumstances. Maintenance means providing ‘dependents’ with basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter and amenities. It also includes access to essential services such as hospitals, etc.. The extent of duties depend upon which law is applicable to them, as we will explain.
